The pee string helps my keep my boys clean. We don't have to keep it as long as 3 inches. I have found that shorter works as well for us.
Max and Teddy squat when using the pads, but are leg lifters outdoors. We have days where the boys get carried away and I have to do a quick wash from the waist down.
