Default Is there housebreak hope for a retiring stud dog?

I have a male who I will retire soon at close to 3 years of age. Hes never been really housebroken. He wants to mark everything in sight! You cant blame him, hes been a Romeo and its just his nature and hes never been trained different.
One day I will place him in a new home. Is there hope for him being housebroken after being a stud and not housebroken up to this point? He will be neutered do you think this will help at this older age?
I heard its really hard to break a stud dog? Any thoughts, experience or suggestions on this.
