I started many, many years ago with probably Photoshop 5.0. Being a photographer, I could not survive without CS2. Most of what I've learned has come from dpreview.com's retouching forum in the very beginning to lots of different seminars in the last few years.

Actions are very powerful as are scripts (I don't use scripts because to write them is pretty complex).

Once you learn the tricks of PS CS2, you'll wonder how you lived without it!
