In my opinion your wrong about puppy class it was not just socialization in fact in my class that was done before an after class. It does teach them to do the commands when there are distractions. We did sit, down, stay, come, walk on the leash and the trainer asked if any one needed help with potty training and told us the basics of shake. It's more then just learning the basics it teaches the best ways to train and it helped me to go on a continue training with my dog.
