I wouldnt wait past 3 days. This is when I have always done it.
My last litter I was late docking them, I just didnt think about docking. It was almost the 6th day. I always heard it was ok until then but not after the 6th day.
The dockings seemed to go well. Very little bleeding, puppies got right on mommy and nursed. When I went in an hour later to check on them again. One puppy had turned cold and was barely breathing. She died before I got to the vet. After docking close to 40 tails in the last couple years at 3 days with not the first bit of problems, I chalk this tragedy up to a late docking. I believe she died of shock. She otherwise was a healthy puppy who was gaining weight well and nursing well up to that point.
Just from experience I wont be docking tails after 3 days. I think they feel alot more pain after then. If I would have known this would happen I would have had my first litter of full tail yorkies.
