Welcome!
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your loved ones.
Your story resonates so much with me. Although my circumstance were different, I did go through a year of ups and downs and more than 1 close call myself. It was very scary. We had just rescued Max and when I was at my lowest, and alone because my husband was traveling, that little boy pulled me through. Tears well in my eyes as the memories are still so vivid. I couldn't understand how he did it, but he gave me peace, companionship, and yes, even a shoulder to cry on. He would climb up on my pillow and would nearly dig his head under mine while I cried my eyes out.
I had always had hounds (still have a Beagle who is 14 years old now) or Labradors and it's a long and crazy story how we came to rescue Max, but like you say, we didn't rescue him, he rescued me. Needless to say, I fell in love with the breed. Now I have a little girl (Lola) who just had 2 babies...and I'm hoping to continue to learn and do all I can to make a positive contribution to this breed that literally saved my life.
