I too thought that leaving the girls was just plain dumb...why would he do that? It didn't make sense to me, and it kinda made me mad at the bad writing.
I just *knew* Carol was going to be back in this episode, just knew it

Oh wow...that is a totally fascinating concept about Lizzie and Carol. That would actually explain why Carol didn't/couldn't express much guilt/regret at the deaths of the other two. But aren't the kids locked away from the sick people? I can't recall if they're locked or not. But I can totally see Carol doing this!
Yes, I DO see some guvnr in Lizzie - the same sort of ruthlessness! She is really an interesting little character.
