My boys are larger too, 9 pounds. I let them jump up and down from the couch to the carpeting. However, I do not let them jump from the height of a bed, or from the car to the hard pavement.
I put the boys on the back of a firetruck to take a picture this past summer. Teddy surprised me and jumped to the pavement. It took him a few seconds to shake off the impact. I could tell that was not good.
