If I needed to pee so badly and there was no restroom, I start looking for a dark alley, a bush, behind a parked car, you get the point. Your dogs need to go when they need to go. They are telling you, but since they don't have a doggy door to go out themselves, and obviously can't open the door, they will hold it as long as they can.

My advice is to keep them on a schedule. Feed and potty times at the same time everyday. Dogs like a schedule anyway. They like predictability. If you will be gone for a long time, you need to confine them in a crate or in an ex pen in a section of the house and leave pee pads down for them.

Also you need to clean the areas where you have found pee with a special enzyme cleaner. Even though we humans can't smell the urine, the dogs can, and will go in the spot again.
