Momma may take a day or two to accept baby....I think I saw in another thread you were tube feeding...4.5cc (ml) is right for her weight.....feed every 3 hours, and weigh the baby twice a day to be sure baby is not loosing weight......I personally would give her 4cc so she continues to try to nurse from momma....that helps with the bonding and helps the milk come down.....and baby needs the colostrum from momma. I dont let my mopmmas eat all of the placentas when they whelp naturally.....just a couple will do....it can make them vomit.....and when I have a section done, I always bring a couple placentas home, rub it all over the puppies and let momma clean her baby up.....that is enough placenta to trigger the bonding...)). Are you feeding one of the formulas on this site, rather than just canned puppy formula? I would suggest doing that....Congratulations on your baby....watch her closely with momma for a couple of days.....help momma with nursing, positioning her on her side and stroking her and calming her while you put puppy on a teat........ |
My mentor gave me a homemade recipe: ingredients- evaporated milk, equal parts of water, egg yolk, pet nutri vitamins, plain yogurt. The reson I am tube feeding my mentor said it is best for air gas that might get in baby and sometimes the milk can get into lungs. Being up all night every two hours I have the tube feeding down pack. Mom dosent have milk but is eating like crazy just minutes from getting home from surgery. I gave her puppy food mix. Even the formula the baby is eating. She ate it all. I also started her on 1 capsule of fenugreek a day. Plus she is taking a antibiotic I'm guessing because of the surgery. I'm trying really hard to latch the baby but it takes me a while once she latches on mom go ballistic on me thanks for your help.
