Default Crepuscular... did you know?

It is funny that we have always referred to the dusk of day as "the witching hour" with our grandchildren. That is when they are wound up like crazy!

Looking at our little 12 week old Gracie's behavior we note that same thing.
With kids they are usually fighting tired/sleep.

However dogs are crepuscular which explains it all! This is simply meaning that they are very happy to sleep all day and all night but.. .. their peak activity times are dawn and dusk.

Gracie is similar to our grandchildren between the hours of about 6:30pm and 8pm. She is just so wound up and playful and all over the place.

The flip side is that she seems to have established her "bedtime" as 8 pm. She sleeps snug as a bug in her kennel right at my side of the bed. If she is not in her kennel at 8pm she basically just konks out wherever she is. It's always clear that she is ready for bed.

At 12 weeks she still varies with her overnight behavior. One night she slept the longest period of 6.5 hours. I was hopeful that we were heading toward sleeping all night. But we were out all day on Friday. When we came home we were both over tired. For her that meant it was hard to unwind to get to sleep and she was up every 2 hours all night.

It seems like her norm now is about 3-4 hours between having to go potty overnight. During the day it is more like every 2 hours.

These little cuties are so much like kids!
