So sorry for the loss of the momma dog. I think you're doing great and you definitely came to the right place for help and advice.
I myself found this site 3 years ago when I brought home Allie, a 16 week old female and Noah, a 7 week old male. I didn't know then that pups needed to stay with mom until 10-12 weeks. Well about 2 weeks after I brought them home, Noah went to the vet for a routine appt and shots. We were headed to Padre for vacation and that was our last stop before hitting the road. We left the vet and got maybe 20 minutes away and Noah started seizing. We turned around and went back and after testing him, come to find out he had Parvo. I was devastated and had no idea what to do. I had non refundable hotel and event tickets for my vacation, and my husband and son were already there waiting on us, and here my little guy was sick. I made arrangements for my mom and other daughter to see him every day while I was gone and I left him there on IV and antibiotics. He was there 10 days.
I was gone for 5 days, and when I got back to see him, my vet honestly thought she was going to have to have "the talk" with me about putting him down. I literally spent every hour of every day of the next 5 days at the vets office singing to him, talking to him, holding him skin to skin and just telling him how strong he was and how much I needed him to pull through. It cost me $7500.00 and a lot of tears but he's a happy 3 yr old who just fathered a litter of 4 precious little girls, that are almost 6 weeks old.
I couldn't have done it without the help and support of this site. I came here looking for help and received so much more. I got love, prayers, well wishes and good thoughts from perfect strangers, many of them have gone on to become genuine friends who share In the day to day happenings of my family and me. I couldn't ask for a better group of people.
