I can only encourage you to find a reputable breeder that has a history of producing healthy pups. Good references are important, make sure they are not internet advertized, health testing is a must.

My girl is 5lbs and as healthy as a horse but there are dogs her size and larger that are not so healthy. It is all in the breeding. There are a lot of people out there breeding genetically defective Yorkies and other small breed dogs right now. Small dogs are kind of a fad so there are a lot of people hopping on the bandwagon to make a buck.

Go to the breeders home and check out the facilities and the dogs that they are breeding. A good breeder will be glad to let you see their dogs and show you books full of their ancestors along with the health testing that has been done.

If you are one to do a lot of walking or hiking or have a family with smaller kids a larger Yorkie may be the perfect pet for you. They need lots of exercise and activity.
