I'll just address part of the travel issue. Be sure your baby is microchipped, the contact information on the chip website is correct and she is wearing ID tags and the numbers on the ID will get the call to you on vacation. Dogs left in the rooms can get let out by the housekeeper even when there is notification a dog is in the room at the hotel desk and with the housekeeping department and even if the dog is closed in the bathroom or a crate. Housekeepers can open the crate or bathroom door to play with the dog, clean the room or a dog can sometimes get out of his crate on his own. We recently had a Yorkie of a member here lost for 3 weeks at the vacation site when her Yorkie was let out of the room by a careless housekeeper and it was only by chance he was finally found, as he had no microchip at the time.
Be sure he's current on his shots and that you have copies of his medical records with you in case he gets ill/injured. If he's on meds or his heartworm preventative will come due while you are away, be sure you have all that with you to give him. Have current photos of him and whatever proof of ownership you have if you want to be ultra-safe.
