Going outside right after an accident ? Is this a good idea ? I walk Kimberly faithfully every morning before work, and every evening after work. She is crated over the course of the day when I'm not here, and we have virtually no accidents. Now that classes have resumed, however, I'm out a little longer during the day so my boyfriend has been "helping out" with walking her. He lets her out of her cage and she freely roams the house without any type of supervision, and he walks her pretty much whenever he feels like it, if he feels like it, and she usually ends up having accidents whenever he's around.
She never, under any circumstances, poops in the house though. I've never really understood why, but I decided not to question it LOL I'm more concern with her urinating on my floor !!
I'm sure you can all imagine how frustrating that is for me. I feel like all of my training with Kimberly is basically being undone! He usually won't walk her until she has an accident, and once she does, he doesn't even try to clean it, he immediately takes her outside. Now based on my previous training experience with her, I've pretty much picked up that if I consistently follow up with a positive experience after a particular behavior, I'm teaching her to continue to perform that behavior.
So my question is this: if he continues to take her outside immediately after she urinates on the floor, is he unconsciously teaching her to do that whenever she wants to go outdoors ? Or am I just overreacting ? |
