Pumpkin is great for keeping a dog regular!! It loosens their stool if they are constipated and helps harden it if they've got diarrhea. I keep it on stock for my older pup who has Irritable Bowels. He doesn't throw up that much, but stress will cause him to have an upset stomach and a bout of diarrhea. Usually long car rides and trips to strange places will do it for him.
I can tell he has an upset stomach because he won't eat his am meal and his stomach will start gurgling and it's audibly loud. He will then run to the door and need to go outside because he has the runs....and back in...and back out....and then he rests for the day. I give him pepto to help his tummy. Usually by the evening, he will eat his dinner. At this point, I usually make him chicken and rick.
It used to be a lot worse...he would get upset over more things...and his episodes would sometimes last for a week...and/or it would go away and flare up again. For about 6 months, it seems he was getting an upset stomach a few days a week. He hardly ever at breakfast. Nowadays, when it happens, he usually only has diarrhea for a day and is back to normal by the evening.
I've started giving him a concoction of meds when I know he's in for a stressful day. I give him Petctin, Benadryl and an Herbal Calming liquid before he gets into the car and it definitely helps. The last few trips to my parents have been great. We made it the whole trip there and back with no diarrhea and I managed to get him to eat a little food while he was at my parents. This is a major improvement for us!!
Hopefully the vets will find out what is wrong with your little one, and if it is IBS, hopefully you can find a way to manage it. Have you looked into the calming collar?? I haven't tried it yet, but i hear it works great for anxious dogs!! The thunder shirt seems to be a hit or miss, as I've heard some dogs do well with it and with others, it's a waste of money. Acupuncture is another homeopathic remedy I thought about trying when his tummy aches were more regular. Praying you can find something that works for you!!
