I think the toad was bufo speciosus, which is poisonous, but not as bad as two really poisonous ones: bufo marinus and bufo alavarius (the one people lick to get high). Marinus' habitat supposedly only goes as far north as the Rio Grande Valley maybe 150 miles south of here, and alvarius isn't known to exist in Texas. The toad definitely looked more like speciosus that marinus, and not at all like alvarius.
