don't blame yourself!! this is our 1st puppy, but everyone has assured me it is a LONG process. believe me he has a spot on the landing of our steps, the only place downstairs that is carpeted I need to invest in some good pet carpet cleaner. even if he just peed outside he will not pee & poop at the same time, lol. as soon as I seem him go up there, we rush him outside, if I turn my back for a second, like this morning, he already pooped. also he seems to have an off day every 5 days or so, where it seems like everything he learned went out the window, the next day he'll go back to normal strange. so for us it's constantly taking him out, lots of praise & treats, & combined wt crate training it's going a lot better then I expected. I've heard on here that cheerios are really good reward (& low calorie) will have to try that too. Good luck
