If you want him to have a place to go to at home then a metal crate that is big enough for him to sit up in and turn around is better than a carrier type of crate. The wire type of crate is more for home use and the dog is still able to view his surroundings without any obstruction and have plenty of room to move around to get comfortable. Putting comfortable and familiar bedding in it along with some of his favorite toys and some treats will make it seem more like a special place just for him rather than a place of confinement.
