Gracie had her second round of puppy shots and deworming yesterday at 10 weeks of age. She was premedicated with 1/2 cc Benedryl prior to.
Afterwards she was as normal for up to 2 hours or so then became very restless and vocal. This amped up more and continued the rest of the day until around 8pm. She did not sleep during that time, did not want to be held.. was virtually inconsolable.
Around 8pm she went into her kennel as usual for that time. She did sleep but woke up very frequently to go out to potty (which is understandable).
This morning she is back to normal up at 8:30 on her normal schedule.
Spoke to the vet this morning just to be sure nothing is abnormal. They feel that it was a reaction to the shots and that the 1/2 cc Benedryl probably prevented an even worse reaction. They indicate that the vet may up the dosage in a few weeks when she has her 3rd round.
Wow.. my heart was breaking for her. We had such a rough day/night. She's so tiny and it just makes you feel helpless. I am so thankful she is back to herself and calm now.
Just sharing in case anyone else experiences this.
