You should get a full blood panel for this kiddo, but most importantly should be checked for diabetes, Cushings, and thyroid levels.
Are there any other random symptoms...like hair loss, back leg muscle wasting, pot belly shape, "old" look to the face/eyes, recurrent skin/ear infections...anything random?
