It's very annoying! I used to have it every once in a while, and haven't had now in quite a long time, knock on wood...I don't know why I'd get it sometimes vs. when I didn't have it (couldn't tie it to anything). My Dad has it REALLY bad where he can't even sleep at times - he now takes Neurontin (gaba pentin) for it and it helps a ton.

Do you think you're having a muscle cramp? I'm sure you know the difference, but just thought I'd ask. I also have to wonder if it's some kind of nerve pain due to the surgery. Also, bc it happens only when you're laying down at night - it makes me wonder if there is something going on w/ circulation to the area in question. Of course, if it's pain behind the knee - you def want to get that checked out due to risk of DVT.

So sorry you're hurting like this...just awful to have it at night on top of it.
How did I miss this (phone rang) - you nailed it - it is not painfull but you want to hit or punch your own body to make it stop. I used to walk the house - jump up and down - anything I could think of.

The Gabapentin is the best thing for it- I know taking asprin of any kind will make it worse - I never could take anything for a headache knowing that night I'd be so active with RLS.....

PS - I too take Trazadone - been on it since my husband died and I tried them all - this worked the best - I'm on 150 mg...nighttime plus the gabapentin thru the day. I read this is inherited and passed on .....
