Usually, stress usually - RLS isn't exactly painful. It feels like you kind of have ants crawling inside your legs, and you have this uncontrollable urge to shake your legs, to flex them really hard then release, or to move your legs around a lot until the weird feeling goes away. It's very annoying! I used to have it every once in a while, and haven't had now in quite a long time, knock on wood...I don't know why I'd get it sometimes vs. when I didn't have it (couldn't tie it to anything). My Dad has it REALLY bad where he can't even sleep at times - he now takes Neurontin (gaba pentin) for it and it helps a ton.

Do you think you're having a muscle cramp? I'm sure you know the difference, but just thought I'd ask. I also have to wonder if it's some kind of nerve pain due to the surgery. Also, bc it happens only when you're laying down at night - it makes me wonder if there is something going on w/ circulation to the area in question. Of course, if it's pain behind the knee - you def want to get that checked out due to risk of DVT.

So sorry you're hurting like this...just awful to have it at night on top of it.
