I'll be interested to hear what the vet and others say in regards to diet. I have a 12 yo diabetic cockapoo, and the vet was always more concerned with getting his diabetes regulated with the food the dog was already eating vs switching up his diet. (He has always been on high quality foods). As he has aged, our diabetic dog has become very picky with eating - and at this point (5 years into being diabetic), the vet says to just feed him whatever he will eat.

Many times he won't eat his dry food or even wet food added to it -- we end up giving him chicken or hamburger to get something in him. To be honest, it's a struggle we face every day with him.

He also suffers from hypothyroidism and is showing signs of cognitive dysfunction. He is slowly losing weight - a healthy weight for him was 18 lbs, at last check he was down to 13 lbs.

Good luck.
