Very happy to hear the lump is getting better! Max has had 2 styes on his eyelid. I used cotton balls to make a warm compress (not too hot or the water could hurt the eye). We did the warm compress a few times a day and some goop came out, and the bump went away.
If there is swelling underneath the lid, that can irritate the eye, but it sounds like it did not in your boy's case.
Hope his eye and nail heal completely quickly.
