I can tell you that I have been to and lived in many different sections of this country and not one is unique when it comes to ignorance and meanness when it comes to animals. Being in rescue, I have learned that education and money does not have a direct link to good, responsible pet care.

Seeing the following thread again this morning, made me think of this thread that I have been meaning to comment on but just had not found the words. Yet another pet owner who is not caring for their pup and where do they live? In the so called "intellectually advanced mecca".

I have lived all over the United States and I agree. Education and affluence do not guarantee great pet knowledge and care.

I come from an educated, "worldly" family -- yet I was clueless about my Yorkies until I came to Yorkie Talk and learned a lot from people who live outside of New England.

In terms of the tail -- I don't think this is a matter of open mindedness. It's a superficial thing about looks that doesn't matter if you are from New York or Wyoming. If I could go back in time, I would still want Max's tail docked, but Teddy's I would leave. Max is classic and holds his tail straight at all times, Teddy is a tail wagger so I think it would cute on him.
