I free feed to an extent. I measure out their allotted portions, however if we leave, I don't leave their food bowls down-only when someone is home, and not at night when we're sleeping. (I am home a lot of the time during the day)
I have heard horror stories of pets choking on food and it scares me, so I don't leave them unsupervised with food.
Lately, Allie has had food 24/7 and I fill her bowl anytime it's empty, but she's in the master bathroom, 4 feet from me and I hear her at night when she's eating, and I get up with her when she goes in to feed the puppies (she does better when I'm sitting with her).
