How long until our new puppy loves us? We have had Thor for just over a week now. So far, he shows almost no affection to us, cowers in the corners, shakes if we approach. Now, he seems to have a stomach thing, has had diarrhea for the past day and a half, eating, but then has a wet movement or two after every meal. I am going to call the vet tomorrow.
We got Thor from a very well respected breeder, and he comes from a loving home (he was affectionate with the Breeder, and Thor also lived with his actual doggie mom, who really took care of him). Thor was older when we got him, for a puppy, 5 months.
We are getting very little affection from him. He is a very well mannered dog, almost never barks, mostly quiet through the night, but we see almost no life, no fun, no puppy energy. I am still waiting for my first waggy tail. The pup we saw when we got him, running around, playing with his Mom and the breeder, tail wagging. We get none of that. Just cowering and shaking.
My wife is about ready to give up. My 8 year old, who has been very patient, is also getting frustrated. We lost our yorkie very suddenly end of December, and this one is the new family member designed to help us all mourn and recover from the sudden loss. Instead we are getting nothing.
Please tell me to chill out and give it time, that 8 days isn't enough time, that this is not uncommon. He comes from a great home, probably misses his Mom, had his entire world turned upside down, it is 6 degrees outside (that used to affect our last one), is still shocked and comatose and will come around. Right? Please. Help! |
