He probably needs to be on antibiotics for the infection right now and have a good vet-performed ear clean out to get him started out right. Then, follow up with your vet regularly to have the ears checked to see if this infection is starting up again. I know when I first got my Tibbe, he had ear troubles, with brown stuff in his ears that smelled, we were at the vet a lot getting smears, tests and such done and Tibbe was on antibiotics for weeks and ear cleaning treatments twice daily until he was completely clear - after the vet cleaned his ears and ear hair thoroughly herself. It can take pretty intense f/u with the vet to get a bad ear infection cleared up but sounds like that little one needs vetting and treatment now.
