I hate to disagree with your vet but this is NOT something that is common in Yorkies. Yorkies do have some common problems, but I have never heard of this one until now and I have been showing and breeding for 8 years. I have not head anyone that has had yorkies for long times ever discuss something like this.
I would look for another vet if I were you.
