 Also, what are you using to do the topknot? I use mini scrunchies and do them really tight. (I mean doubling the scrunchie as much as possible..not pulling her hair tight lol). Make sure you DO losen the hair between the head and the topknot holder so it isn't too tight..that will make them rub it out because it is uncomfortable.

I thought I would never get a topknot in Max.  He learned he had to put it in if he wanted to go walking.  I had to start with the latex bands until his hair was long and thick enough for the scrunchies.    
I always took it out at night and massaged his head.  Now that my boys have really long topknots, they have to wear the scrunchies all night or they would end up with hair in their mouths and eyes.   
It has to be tight enough to hold the hair, but not so tight that it is pulling the skin or ears.  When my guys scratch at their heads, I know I must have gotten a hair too tight or pulled too close to their ears.
