The way I got Mandie to leave hers alone was to put it in and then immediately give her a treat and took her outside to play. She played outside and totally forgot about her hair. She would eventually rub it out, but I kept doing that and eventually, she left it alone. Didn't take too long. Good luck!
Also, what are you using to do the topknot? I use mini scrunchies and do them really tight. (I mean doubling the scrunchie as much as possible..not pulling her hair tight lol). Make sure you DO losen the hair between the head and the topknot holder so it isn't too tight..that will make them rub it out because it is uncomfortable.
