I was born in N.O. but grew up in Lafayette where we also had Mardi Gras. I remember a lot of beer and drunk people. Frankly, I don't think a lot of what I saw would be tolerated today, but I could be wrong. We had friends in some of the Krewes and would go to some of the balls from time to time. They were outrageous, but fun. I remember I had a friend with an older sister who was given the choice of being in one of the courts or going to Europe for the whole summer, and she chose to be in the ball. I thought she was insane. Actually, I still do.
When we got older, we would take the whole week off from school and go skiing!!! We turned into skiing nuts, all of us kids. |
