I don't have an answer, but hoping someone here can offer suggestions or help.

If it happens to clapping and loud noises, perhaps have a video recorder running at the time and clap. You should be able to catch it like that. If your gut telks you that your vet is wrong, consult another vet. And perhaps a specialist in neurology..sounds neurological to me.
