I used one like that for Tink's recovery from liver surgery. She got in it a few times before her surgery, then after she loved it bc it gave her a safe place to be away from my other dogs and cats.

I would leave it open and set his bed, food and water in there and let him come and go as he pleases. Then occasionally zip it shut for a time here and there and see how he does. He may like it when he's at the booth... it'll give him protection and some privacy.
