Try a treat ball. That way he still has to work for it but it is easier to monitor what and when he eats. I put Huey's 1/4 cup of kibble in the treat ball & he gobbles it up. He loves it. Food in the bowl might last a day or more. We have this one (but I discarded the little treats that came with it. They seemed very dangerous to me-tiny enough to swallow whole but very hard & plastic-like)
