I prefer to be in the room and have things done in front of me. To me, it is no different than staying with a child. Short of xrays and procedures requiring sedation and anesthesia, parents are always allowed to stay with their children.

I suppose some dogs may be more amenable to procedures without their humans in the room. Also, I'm sure that vets have encountered problems with people being upset by routine things. Seeing a sizable needle go into a skinny Yorkie leg isn't for the squeamish, for instance.

I would be more upset by the vet's snarky question about what you would do if you didn't like something.
