If you read through the thread you posted in, you may have noticed it was from 2007, and that since mixed breed dogs can pick up any characteristics from either parent, there is no 'prediction' what to expect from a Shih Tzu (pronounced "Sheed Zoo"...see the breed club at
Home | American Shih Tzu Club) and Yorkshire Terrier mixed breed dog (see the breed club at
http://www.theyorkshireterrierclubofamerica.org/ ) referred to as a "Shorkie". Same thing with Maltese / Yorkshire Terrier mixed breed dogs. However, all of the "Shorkies" and "Malties" I have seen have been very cute, even if very different from each other.
Since the Shih Tzu has many different color options, while the Yorkshire Terrier has only ONE color option, and a different, if also long, type of hair, and is double coated where the Yorkshire Terrier is single coated, the "Shorkie" has a good chance of having long hair, but you'd have to keep in mind that not all dogs with long hair grow the exceptional show coats, either.
Bottom line...I would have no problem taking a "Shorkie" into my home.
