I got thinking that how each of us washes our pads is probably determined by the types of washing machines we have.
I used to have a top-loading machine at my old house (which stayed with the house when I sold it). It was great at cleaning in just one wash, probably because it used plenty of water per cycle, both to wash and rinse.
I now have stacked front-loaders and very small ones at that. It took me months to get the hang of it, especially with how little detergent to use. While it cleans most things really well, because it uses very little water, more heavily soiled items require a pre-rinse or an extra wash.
