Dna You can get a DNA number before you begin to use the male at stud..but once you have used him and he has produced 3 litters within a year or 7 within a lifetime (I think) then it must be done.
BUT...DNA registered does NOT mean tested for genetic problems..it is a way of ID'ng the sire if there is ever a dispute. The inside of the mouth is swabbed and is on record. It is the sam as with humans..to determine the father of a baby, DNA shows who the father is, not his genetic health...confuses many breeders and when there is a pup with a health problem they refuse to make good on it because they think their male is not responisble..he has been DNA tested,means nothing regarding health.
