I work 11 hour shifts and do feel guilty as hell leaving Dexter in the house... For that reason, I would not get another dog - it just seems like double the guilt for me. I pay for a local dog walker to come in and keep Dexter company half way through my shift, and she'll text me about their session... It's way more reassuring knowing he's had an energetic walk, a companion and is generally shattered and will sleep the second half of my shift than worrying about my two dogs at home with no stimulation. I'd perhaps think about paying for a service, instead of getting another dog (it would probably be cheaper ha). There's so many different factors that you'd have to account for with a second dog - for starters, my Dex loves dogs and gets sooooooo excited to play and see my mother's dogs - however, I can't say he'd be equally thrilled having a new dog in my house - sharing the attention and the time I have to spend with him. I'd say make the most of your time with your current dog, and spend your extra dog money on ensuring he has the best most effective time when you have to leave him, not introducing a second dog to try and entertain him.
