Depends, I have a toddler that shows no interest in our yorkie puppy other than laughing at her and crawling around on the floor with her. She likes to climb all over him and try to steal his milk bottle and he pushes her away with the palm of his hand and she stops. I guess it all depends on both the yorkie and the child's temperment. My yorkie pup came from a breeder that has young children between the ages of 3-7 and they were exposed to children very young. I think the main thing here is never leave your dog, no matter what breed it is unsupervised around small children...For both the children and dog safety. I'm a housewife so I'm home with the baby and the puppy during play time. I have baby gates that allow me to let the puppy around my toddler when it's a good time. There are other reasons to be careful and supervise a puppy around small children...During the potty training days if you have a puppy running loose and a toddler running lose...well lets just say I've heard some stories about people's kids eating dog poop and that is the last thing I ever want happening to my child lol. |
