I was in the same situation as you. My first pup is only 3.5 lbs. She is almost 2 now, but I used to feel so bad leaving her home alone especially because she is so tiny. I didn't want to take her to doggie daycare because I didn't want her to be around dogs that were going to be so much larger than her. When she was 1 year old I got another puppy. They got along great at the breeders house but once we brought the second puppy home they did not get along. They could not even be left alone together. The older pup was just used to having us all to herself. After a couple of months they got used to each other and now they LOVE each other and I can tell that they enjoy each others company. They are both females, thus the difficulty getting along in the beginning. So if you get another dog there is the possibility that they could have some difficulty getting along in the beginning, but in the long run it is better for them to have a companion. |
