How old is he? I agree that obedience training is the first order of the day. A dog that does not have stability with boundaries can become insecure and all kinds of bad habits can stem from that.

If he is an adult I hope you know his background because how he has been treated in the past will give you a good idea of what you are dealing with and how to fix it. If he is a puppy then hopefully you have a good breeder and an idea of the type of temperament the parents have and how to deal with it. A good Yorkie breeder can give you a wealth of knowledge about your pup and training issues.

Try to find a good, well recommended book on Yorkshire Terriers. Terriers do not train quite the same way as many other dogs. These little dogs were bred to kill rodents inside of walls. They have very feisty temperaments but should be friendly and loving. Just like any animal they need lots of positive reinforcement and treats to encourage good behavior.

Sit, down, and stay are the first things your dog needs to learn. If he is a puppy it is never too early to start with some lessons at home. Many small dogs get bad reputations because people don't bother to train them due to their small size and the dogs become royal terrors.
