Definitely have the vet look at it....I think if it was normal cold weather causing the dry skin or just dry skin, there wouldn't be hair loss....but I don't know.

Not to scare you or anything, but I had a Shih-tzu once that had mites (demodix or a form of it) and his skin was dry and sometimes scaly/flakey looking and he lost hair, not a lot or big clumps or bald spots (like what most dogs get with demodix mites, he also didn't have scabs like the symptoms said)....so that might be it....I HOPE NOT, but I would definitely get it checked out and it wouldn't hurt for them to check either....I think they just do a light skin scrape.
