Awww....that is a sweet gesture. Have you talked to her about getting a puppy. If you haven't, maybe you should hint around to see how she feels about it.

IDK her situation, but I know that taking care of an animal is a big responsibility and it's an even bigger responsibility when you are doing it by yourself. If she works full time, she is going to need to find out how to get home to let the dog out...especially if it is a puppy. If her financial situation has changed since she lost her husband, she may not be able to afford having another dog. If she's mourning the loss of her husband and dog, a new dog could just be a painful reminder of what she lost. If she plans on doing some traveling away from home, a pet can also hinder that.

Not trying to discourage you at all....as I said, I have no idea what kind of situation your sister is in....just being the devils advocate.

Just recently, I tried to convince my friend to get a dog...he lives alone and he gets lonely and i think he'd really benefit from having a companion...and he's able to have a dog, but he doesn't seem to want one right now. He's had dogs...he likes dogs....and to me, it makes perfect sense for him to get one...but he doesn't see it that way. I am super glad that I didn't just come over with a dog in my arms to give to him...because I thought about doing that!! LOL!!

Hopefully you've talked to your sister about it before surprising her. If you haven't, you may want to...or just be prepared to take on the puppy yourself if it doesn't work out.
