When I crate trained my Akita I took a baby food jar (a can works well too) and filled it with pennies and if she was carrying on in her crate I would shake it. Don't know why it works but it did. Amazingly enough after the first week she would go into her crate without throwing a fit. My yorkie sleeps with me so I don't have any experience with crate training them. Just an idea.
