Kipper success! Well I haven't been in here for awhile...Kipper is now 9 1/2 mos old and weighs 7 lbs. I have fallen in love with the little stinker! I had only a little trouble housebreaking him, but found out so much of the horror stories regarding Yorkies and small breeds are not necessarily true...I have housebroken many various breeds over the years and Kip was no better or worse than any others. The key for him, and I read this on here also, was teaching him to use the doggie door. Once he really understood he could go outside in short order when his bladder was full he picked it right up...of course along with catching and punishing for accidents and praising EVERY TIME he did it right. I had also asked on here about neutering, and I am waiting as long as possible on that because of his small size. His nature is quite different from my late poodle, and that took some adjusting, but I have come to accept his determined independence! He shows his affection differently, but show it he does!
Does anyone know why, when I go to pet him on his head and down his back, he sinks his back down like he doesn't want to be petted? If I scratch under his chin he is fine...wondering if this harkens back to his terrier roots of going into burrows and tunnels to catch prey? Maybe touching his head or back brings that reflexive "scrunch down low" response? |
