Default Safe over-the-counter topical anti-itch treatment?

Greetings, it's my first post.

I'm starting to take a more active role caring for my girlfriend's Yorkies and I'm hoping you can help me make a list of some safe over-the-counter home treatments. I'm all for taking them to the vet or pet hospital when the need arises, but there's a lot that can be done at home for little everyday comforts.

Does anyone know of good home remedies to stop the itchy-scratchies? Hercules has some redness (skin's not broken thank goodness) on his tummy where he's still nipping and scratching.

Are there safe topicals for anti-itch?
anbesol?
hydrocortisone?
essential oils?
hydrating cream?
Tomlyn Allercaine?
other?

Thanks for your help.
