I went through this with Max. He cried in the car his whole first year, now he loves the car. Part of the problem was he thought he could only pee on his pad at home. Once he learned he could go outside, that helped. Then I bought a doggy car seat. That solved the problem. Maturity probably helped too.

Make sure car rides are to fun places, and not just the vet and groomer.

For walks, use treats or toys to encourage him to leave your driveway. You may also employ the help of a family member or friend to stand 10 feet in front of your pup with the lure. If he moves forward, praise him happily.

Practice every day and make it a fun routine, a goal for him to accomplish.
